Thank you, Dr. Bergsten, for hosting me today to discuss India's role in the global economy and the future of India-US relations. These are two different, but I believe, inter-related ideas. It could not be at a more appropriate time, with less than a week left for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's official visit to the United States.   But nowhere is the geopolitical significance of emerging economic diplomacy more significant than in the subcontinent and the extended neighbourhood. The highly successful Free Trade Agreement with Sri Lanka could become the trendsetter for future economic cooperation in the subcontinent.
